Crops and Vegetables

Judging criteria: uniformity, freedom from defect, size, and cleanliness (typical of produce in a modern grocery store) and number or amount as indicated per variety.

Class I - Garden Root, Stem and Leaf Crops
  1. Asperagus – 4 stalks, top 6"
  2. Beets – 4 with 1" top and tail
  3. Broccoli – 2 heads with 2-4" stem
  4. Brussel Sprouts – 4
  5. Cabbage – 2 heads, peel off outer leaves and cut close to bottom
  6. Carrots – 4 with 1" top and tail
  7. Cauliflower – 2 heads cut close to bottom, no leaves.
  8. Celery – 2 stalks with roots
  9. Chard – 4 petioles with blades
  10. Jerusalem Artichokes – 4
  11. Leeks – 4 with root
  12. Lettuce – 2 heads or bunches, cut close to bottom
  13. Onions – 4 with roots
  14. Parsnips – 2 with 1" top and tail>/li>
  15. Potatoes – 4
  16. Radishes – 4 with leaves and tails
  17. Rhubarb – 4 stalks with blade removed
  18. Rutabaga – 4 with 1" top and tails
  19. Spinach – 4 petioles with blades
  20. Turnips – 4 with 1" top and tails
  21. other vegetables not listed

  22. Class II - Garden and Orchard Fruits
  23. Apricots – 4 with stems
  24. Apples – 4 with stems
  25. Beans – 8 pods with stems
  26. Berries – 8 with stems
  27. Corn – 4 cobs, remove husks and silk, do not tip top; leave 1" stem
  28. Cherries – 8 with stems
  29. Cucumbers – 4 with stems
  30. Eggplant – 2 with stems
  31. Grapes – 2 clusters
  32. Melons – 1 with stem (except cantaloupe) cut from end to end and covered in clear plastic wrap
  33. Peas – 8 pods with stems
  34. Peppers – 4 with stems
  35. Plums/Prunes – 8 with stems
  36. Pumpkins – 2 with stems
  37. Squash – 1 winter or 4 summer with stems
  38. tomatoes – 4 with stems

Flowers

  1. All entries and exhibits must be in place by 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18th, 2011.
  2. Three items only on individual species or one only per stem of species
  3. Judging will be on quality of flower, size of bloom and length of stem
  4. Individual arrangements for all types of cut flowers – tables will be furnished by the Fair. Other items must be furnished by exhibitor. Superintendent will award special ribbons.
